This September, I’m taking on one of the biggest physical challenges I’ve ever attempted: paddling more than 30 miles across the open ocean from Catalina Island to Newport Beach as part of Ben Did Go 11.0. The event honors Newport Beach Lifeguard Ben Carlson, who lost his life while rescuing a swimmer. Money raised supports water-safety and drowning-prevention programs, lifeguard organizations, and scholarships for student-athletes. I’ve committed a lot of time and training to completing this paddle, but the distance I cover is only part of the goal. I’m also working to raise at least $2,000 for the Ben Carlson Foundation.
