We Are Team Dog — And This Is Why We Show Up

Hi, we’re Team Dog — the volunteers who show up at Animal Harbor nearly every day of the week to walk, love, and work with the dogs in our care.

Rain or shine, cold or blazing heat, we’re there.

We’re just people who love dogs — especially the ones who don’t yet know how to love us back.

Some of the dogs who arrive at Animal Harbor are scared, shut down, unsure of everything. They don’t know what a leash is, or why a human might want to be kind to them. Some flinch at a raised hand. Others don’t want to leave their kennel.

That’s where we come in.

We clip on the leash, sit quietly nearby, offer treats, speak gently, walk slowly. And we keep showing up.

Day after day, we watch as fear turns into trust. The tail starts to wag. The leash becomes a signal of joy, not danger. A dog that once cowered now leans in for affection. A dog that once pulled with panic now walks calmly at our side.

And the best part? The moment we’ve waited for.

When that dog goes home. Confident. Happy. Loved.

That’s why we do this. That’s why we’re part of the Beyond the Bone campaign this year — to help even more dogs get that second chance.

Animal Harbor is aiming to rescue, care for, and place 300 animals this year — and we know firsthand what it takes to get them ready.

We’ve seen how enrichment, consistency, training, and compassion change lives.

We’re fundraising not just to walk dogs — but to walk them home.
