I'm thrilled to be riding in my third Bike-A-Thon with friends, and this time with the next generation of folks using bikes as a vehicle for social change (yes, two- and three-year olds)! Bikes Not Bombs is an amazing organization, one that I first came to know as a D-Lab student in January 2009 in Arusha, Tanzania, working with bike mechanics-turned-inventors at Tumaini Cycles: Bernard, Shaibu and others turned donated bikes and parts from a BNB container into innovative technologies like pedal-powered blenders, water pumps, cell phone chargers, and more.
