Dear Bike-A-Thon Supporters,

As our 32nd Bike-A-Thon approaches on June 9, the excitement grows at Bikes Not Bombs. Bikes Not Bombs continues to collect and ship containers loaded with bikes and parts to Latin America and Africa supporting partners like the Village Bicycle Project in Ghana and Sierra Leone.

Bicycles empower women in Africa. How? Learning to ride a bike fosters independence and opportunity. In rural Africa transportation is expensive and people walk long distances. Riding a bicycle enables women to travel faster and for free. Instead of a two hours walk to school, a student can ride a bike to school in 30 minutes. Women can carry loads of yams or firewood on their bicycle that she normally would carry on her head. Carrying loads more quickly translates into higher income and improved quality of life.
