What this walk means to me..... I recently found out I have the BRCA2 gene mutation I inherited from my father. He happened to find out by chance with genetic testing, which gave me a 50% chance of having it. The gene does not mean I have breast cancer but it raises my chance of getting it by 65%. From this point on I will have frequent testing & screening for breast cancer as well as ovarian cancer. I am planning on taking further percations and getting a double masectomy, which will signifigantly reduce my risk from 65% to 5%. I am not alone 1 in every 500 women to have this gene mutation. I just want to raise awarness because early detection is the key to fighting breast cancer. I truly admire the women who have been through preventive care or who are living with breast cancer, and absoutley refuse to give up!! This is for you ladies right here in our own community.
