About Me

I am a Knoxville native who loves good pens, strong coffee, dot-grid journals, trash snacks, and outdoor adventure. I've been a member of the CCAHT family since 2016, and I love harnessing the power of creative communication to inspire change and unite communities.

When I'm not at work, I love to read, eat, write, explore, and watch movies. Most weekends, you'll find my husband and me packing up our whitewater gear and hitting a river somewhere for a "fun run" - a very different type of "running" that's my very favorite kind.

#whyistride

I've never really considered myself a "runner" - not even in the past year or so, when I really started getting into it. I'm slower than I'd like, and I take far too many walk breaks. And even though I wheeze aloud to myself that "running is dumb" when I'm trying to push through and reach a new goal, deep down I really do like it. I like the workout, I like how it makes me feel, and I like the time alone it gives me just to exist. To think.

Anyway. I read something recently that stuck with me - it was a quote somewhere on Instagram, or some such place - but as we've been preparing for Share Your Strides over the past couple of months, I haven't been able to shake it: "Forward is a pace."

Simple.

A little mantra-ish? Cliche, maybe.

But meaningful.

Meaningful to me personally in my pursuit of becoming a stronger runner - in my pursuit of anything, really - and relevant for us all, too, as we work to navigate and move forward in this crazy COVID world month after month, long past when we all thought life might be "back to normal." But especially, and every day, relevant for the survivors served by the CCAHT, as they work, stride by stride, to push forward toward somewhere safer, someplace brighter, and something new.

As I gear up for Share Your Strides, that little Instagram nugget is stuck in my mind - forward is a pace - reminding me #whyistride. Because often, it doesn't matter much how quickly you get somewhere; what matters is that you are going at all.
