Meet our Honorary Captain - Cole

Cole was born at just 28 weeks, weighing 3 lbs.  2 oz., and spent 67 days in the Albany Med NICU. Despite his challenging start, Cole is now a thriving, energetic 4-year-old with a contagious laugh and a love for climbing, playing, and eating just about anything.

During Cole’s NICU stay, his family faced significant financial strain. His mom had already spent four weeks in the hospital prior to his birth, and now with only one income and Cole's older brother at home, she returned to work just two weeks postpartum. That’s when a social worker introduced the family to Building on Love. The support they received went far beyond financial relief—it gave them peace of mind and helped them be more present for Cole during a critical time.

Today, Cole’s mom gives back by volunteering monthly, sending personalized birthday cards to other Building on Love children
