We are dedicating this year to Scott Walroth
For many years, Scott Walroth was the driving force behind the adult hockey group known as the Silver Skaters. Scott died in June 2024 at age 65 from complications due to multiple myeloma.
This year our team will skate under the name “Scott’s Silver Skaters” as a tribute to him and all he did to make our group successful. Any contribution made in Scott’s honor will be matched up to $3,500 by Capital Cup for Kids, Inc. This donation will go to The Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center to support families with a child facing long-term illness.

Scott was involved in adult hockey in the Capital region for many years. For a long time he organized a group that met in the early mornings at Union College. More recently, he was in charge of our Silver Skaters group that meets twice a week in Schenectady. He was responsible for setting the lineups each day, ensuring we had 20 skaters, 2 goalies and even teams. He did this flawlessly, even as he was undergoing medical treatment.
Scott played for many years in the Capital Cup hockey tournament. From 2011-2015 Scott played for the Mighty Crappie team. He then started to play for the Over the Hill team in the Masters division.
We are grateful Scott was able to play for our team in the 2023 Capital Cup, the first year the Silver Skaters participated as a group in the tournament. It meant a lot to him, in the midst of his treatments, to be able to play the game he loved with his friends.
We hope the entire adult hockey community will celebrate the life of Scott Walroth. It is because of people like Scott that we get to play the sport we love.
We encourage you to donate in Scott Walroth’s honor at this year’s Capital Cup hockey tournament to support The Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center.

Meet our Honorary Captain - Cole
Cole was born at just 28 weeks, weighing 3 lbs. 2 oz., and spent 67 days in the Albany Med NICU. Despite his challenging start, Cole is now a thriving, energetic 4-year-old with a contagious laugh and a love for climbing, playing, and eating just about anything.
During Cole’s NICU stay, his family faced significant financial strain. His mom had already spent four weeks in the hospital prior to his birth, now with only one income and Cole's older brother at home, she returned to work just two weeks postpartum. That’s when a social worker introduced the family to Building on Love. The support they received went far beyond financial relief—it gave them peace of mind and helped them be more present for Cole during a critical time.
Today, Cole’s mom gives back by volunteering monthly, sending personalized birthday cards to other Building on Love children
"Today you play a game you love. But to me and other NICU parents, you’re doing so much more than that. You’re giving hope and taking some of the stress away by helping raise money for this amazing foundation. I hope you have a great time out on the ice, and I thank you for playing for NICU babies, especially my Cole.” Cole's Mom
