Meet Our Honorary Captain and 2025 Hall of Fame Inductee – Carter

Born on July 1, 2019, weighing just 14 ounces and measuring 9.5 inches long, Carter entered the world 12 weeks early due to intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). Despite the odds, Carter has shown the heart of a champion from day one.

He spent the first 17 months of his life in the hospital—nine months in the NICU and another eight in the PICU at Albany Medical Center. His tiny body faced enormous challenges, including pulmonary hypertension and chronic lung disease. There were moments when his body began to give up—but Carter never did. Through every setback, every surgery, and every uncertain day, Carter fought with strength and determination, always surrounded by the unwavering love and advocacy of his family.

On October 31, 2019, Carter underwent a series of life-saving procedures and received both a tracheostomy and a GJ tube. It marked a turning point—though his future was uncertain, he began to make incredible progress.

After more than a year and a half in the hospital, Carter finally went home on December 14, 2020. Today, he is thriving—full of life, laughter, and a little mischief. He loves playing with his big brother Anthony, being silly, and chasing every thrill he can find. Carter truly is a miracle.

Building on Love and Capital Cup for Kids were honored to stand beside Carter’s family during their journey, helping them stay on top of essential household bills and supplies so they could focus on what mattered most—Carter’s care and recovery.
