The Ersoy Family in Memory of Anita Ersoy

A Memorial Research Grant in Loving Memory of Anita Ersoy

Anita Ellen Ersoy (August 23rd, 1953 - April 9th, 2024), my wife of 44 years and the love of my life for the past 53 years passed away unexpectedly in our home after a short fight with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease.  She was a 70-year young, very energetic, healthy woman who loved to exercise, ballroom dance, and sing.  She particularly loved the holidays, and spent great time and care each year decorating, baking, and finding everyone the perfect gift.  She was a kind-hearted woman, full of life and love for everyone around her.

Not only was Anita a beloved wife, she was also a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, sister in-law, daughter in-law, mother in-law, aunt, great aunt, friend, and "second mother" to many.  She is survived by her husband Levent, her son Sercan and daughter Selvi, and their spouses Glen and Raquelle.  She is also survived by her most beloved granddaughter, Robin, whom she will not have the chance to watch grow.

She is also survived by her two sisters Carol and Julie and sister-in-law Didem who looked up on her as an older sister and her role model. She was cherished by our niece İlkim and her family, husband Mayukh and son Leon, and our nephew Dinç.   She is also survived by our two nieces, Alyse and Corinne.  She is cherished by her mother-in-law who loved her as her own daughter.  Indeed, she was a remarkable person; with her quiet, calm, and kind demeanor, she effortlessly endeared herself to others.

Words cannot express the sorrow and grief we feel for her loss.  We may no longer be in her memories, but she will continue to live on in ours.  You are sorely missed.  You will always be the love of my life. Rest in peace my dearest.

Anita passed away from Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, a rare, rapidly progressive, neurodegenerative disease.  There are no treatments, no cure, and the disease is 100% fatal.  We request, in lieu of flowers or any other gifts of condolence, that people donate to this Memorial Research Grant we have set up in her memory.  We hope that in the future, no families will have to suffer the trauma of losing a loved one to this terrible disease.
