Randy passed away on April 22, 2024 at the age of 57 from CJD.  He first fell ill during a business trip in March.  Feeling confused, and not sounding himself, the family flew to Pittsburgh to take him to a hospital.  After several tests, it was found that he had been having seizures in his brain, but once he was put on seizure medication, he started to improve and was able to fly back to California.  Once home, he did seek medical attention as he had been advised, and was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt- Jakob Disease. CJD is a fast moving neurodegenerative disease and 5 weeks later, he succumbed to this horrible disease.  

With such a rapid decline, life was a whirlwind for his family trying to care for him at home, as each day presented a new set of challenges.  CJD is a rare disease that affects one in a million and there is no cure.  My hope is to spread awareness of the disease, as even the average medical personnel were not familiar with it, making it hard to treat his symptoms.  His quick downward spiral progressed faster than the system moved making it hard to receive support, information, and medical attention.

Randy founded REM Sleep Solutions which his wife Doreen and daughter Amanda plan to take over and continue to run.  No one can fill Randy's shoes, but they hope to build a new version of REM to continue Randy's legacy.

Randy loved his Boston sports teams and would always get Red Sox tickets when he was visiting his hometown in Massachusetts.  He was an avid golfer and played weekly with friends.  Randy was an entrepreneur at heart always looking for an opportunity and investment.  He could easily grab the attention of a group with his love of story telling, quick wit and way with words.

Many of us have been recipients of birthday cards, wedding toasts, anniversary cards, etc. with a custom poem written by him. It's only appropriate that we honor this part of him that made him so special and unique with our own poem. Randy, you were an amazing friend, brother, husband and father! This one's for you.
