In January of 2023, Les was diagnosed with Cruzfeldt-Jakobs Disease (CJD) - a rare, and 100% fatal brain disease. At that time we setup a page on Caringbridge.org to help family and friends understand his diagnosis and keep aware of his progress. Just 3 months after diagnosis, Les passed away - in April of 2023 (link to his obituary).
Les had what is called sporadic or spontaneous CJD - the type affecting most people who develop the disease for no apparent reason (Link to read more about CJD).
To balance the deep feeling of grief associated with his passing, I'm supporting the important work of the CJD foundation. The mission of the CDJ foundation is to support families with loved ones affected by this disease providing much needed education and advocacy.
As well, the CJD foundation directly supports research through grants that furthers our understanding and helps find treatments for this incidious disease, collaborating with scientists, clinicians, medical centers, health authorities, and professional associations internationally.
With this fundraising page, I'm establishing an annual Memorial Research Grant in Les' name (a $10,000 (USD) minimum).
I hope you'll join me and help fund this Memorial Research Grant in tribute to Les - making a difference in the fight to end the suffering caused by CJD.
Yours
Jim
