Dr. Claudia Ann Medlin, age 65, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026. In January, Claudia was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease and died from complications of the illness.
She passed away Saturday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Dr. Ashton Medlin Kirkpatrick, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Her husband, Tim, was at her side, and she was surrounded by her loving family.

She is also survived by her brother, Larry Manuel (wife Lynn), and nieces Anissa Mock and Claire Manuel.
Dr. Medlin was the daughter of the late Claude and Annie Manuel of Fairfax, South Carolina.
She was employed by the Sumter County School District as a Reading Coach at Pocalla Springs Elementary School. Over the course of her career, she spent 31 years as a teacher in the school districts of Newberry County, Greenwood County, Charleston County, and Sumter County.
Her passion for education was second only to her love for her family and friends. Known lovingly as “Nana” to her grandson, she will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother.
