In 2010, at only 21 years old, I almost lost my best friend due to a complication in her pregnancy that ended in the loss of her daughter. A month after that, four blood clots were found in her lungs. It was then that she was diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder called Antiphospholipid Syndrome. It was the reason for her pregnancy complications, loss of her daughter, and the PEs. It was also the start of a life no young person thinks is possible; but here we are, eight years later. She is on lifelong treatment of anticoagulant therapy to prevent another clotting event. She has survived multiple TIAs, neurological issues, acute hearing, vision, and memory loss, chronic pain, and mental health issues, along with a grocery list of other symptoms and complications. She manages to juggle her condition while continuing to liver her life with such passion as a wife, a mother, a business woman and most of all, a survivor. I am here to help raise awareness and funding for the prevention and treatment of blood clots.
