Welcome to Nathan’s Story Team page…

In Memory of Nathan Silpath 2001-2018

Nathan started fighting cancer at age 9 (Nov. 2010), with an original diagnosis of osteosarcoma, bone cancer, he would go through months of chemo treatments, labs, transfusions and surgeries to be done at age 10.

Not quite yet…

Nathan was thrown back into treatment when his bone cancer spread to both his lungs at age 11and from there he’d continue to fight many more time s but not all the same cancers he was diagnosed with blood cancers after the fact. Nathan fought hard and with a lot of dignity and his focus was on living life and helping others, so much that he founded his own non-profit when he was told he was going to fight cancer at 11 for the second time, he just wanted to make a difference for children like him fighting cancer. After fighting half his life to live, at age 16 Nathan passed away (Jan. 2018).

Nathan secondary cancers were caused by his chemo’s from his osteosarcoma battles, these chemo’s were over a decade old when Nathan was diagnosed on 2010 but there were no other options, so like many other children  he had to receive the treatment’s that were available. Childhood cancer does not have new chemo options often because there’s a serious lack of funding and awareness for it. Nathan’s secondary cancer would prove difficult as well due to no treatments being known for them so his Drs and many others around the USA had to come together to try to save his life. Nathan went through many different chemos trying to survive and even a BMT when he was able to, but relapsed in 6months and then exploded into another blood cancer diagnosis shortly afterwards.

Treatments for our children are no piece of cake, they are long and harsh with many side effects ie. secondary cancers, organ failure/transplants, hearing and visual loss, heart failure, physical disabilities, cognitive impairments, infertility, and death.

When children are in treatment for cancer it’s not a simple process at all for them, first off they don’t even understand what’s happening to them; all the sudden they’re pulled out their home, school and life that they know and subjected to countless hours, days and even months into the hospital with people the never seen before, being subjected to countless, labs, testing, needles, surgeries and just a complete change, life is never the same and they are children and deserve that chance to live, grow and thrive...

THINGS NEED TO CHANGE…

And that’s why WE are here…
