We are taking part in this fundraiser because my son, David was diagnosed with EBV driven HLH two years ago. I can still remember the nurses putting in his port, the numerous times spent in the surgery waiting room, and the long stays in the hospital. The worst moment was that first few rounds of chemotherapy and David (not even two yet) realizing that his hair was falling out. I just remember feeling broken and thinking nothing will ever be the same for him, he won't have a normal life. But God knew my baby was a fighter, and I'm happy to say by God's good grace and love he is now in the cancer survivor clinic at VCU Childern's Pavillion. We are taking part of this 5K because like many people who have had loved ones with cancer or are battling it themselves, every bit of funding for these kids helps in so many ways. The ASK program is a wonderful example of such a program, they have numerous events for kids such as the fall festival for example. A perfect way for kids to enjoy themselves as well as let them meet other kids who have been through what they have. 

You never realize it until you're in the moment how big a blessing it is to see your child happy and just having a bit of a normal moment in the midst of chaos.
