Anyone who knows me, knows I am passionate about dogs. But what you may not know about me is that my Grandma was legally blind, due to a disorder called Graves Disease. This makes working at Leader Dogs for the Blind especially dear to me.
There are currently 1.3 million legally blind people in the United States. 75,000 people will become blind or visually impaired this year. For people who are blind or visually impaired, the loss of sight is only the beginning of a life-changing reality. As everyday tasks become daunting, these individuals often become depressed, anxious and isolated.
At Leader Dogs for the Blind, thanks to the kindness of compassionate donors like you, we give 1,095,000 days of independence to our clients every year. 200 hundred clients are matched with Leader Dogs. 100 clients are provided with white cane training. 24 teenagers gain leadership and travel skills in our summer camp program. 6 clients who are deaf AND blind are provided with customized guide dog training. And $0 of the cost associated with these services are passed on to our clients.
Thank you for helping me raise $1,000 to rappel down a 15-story building on September 22 in honor of my Grandma. I am so thankful for your generous support.
