Why We Walk
The Lowcountry Buddy Walk raises awareness for individuals with Down syndrome and celebrates the value they bring to our community.
It also raises critical funds for the Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry (DSAL) to provide year-round family support, advocacy, grants, emergency support, community events, and helpful resources across Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties.
The Lowcountry Buddy Walk is part of the national Buddy Walk program, a branded awareness and fundraising event connected to the National Down Syndrome Society. A portion of proceeds supports NDSS and its national advocacy, awareness, and education efforts. The remaining funds stay local with DSAL to help us connect, serve, empower, and advocate for individuals with Down syndrome and their families across the Lowcountry.
Together, our local and national efforts support a shared mission: building a more inclusive community for individuals with Down syndrome.
Want to see one example of your support in action? Watch a glimpse of Buddy Camp, one of the meaningful DSAL programs made possible through community support.
