End 68 Hours of Hunger has 42 programs, and the financial performance of all programs is combined on the annual IRS Form 990.

While some of our programs are very successful at raising funds, others are less so. Each program is self-funding, and each program’s request for funding should be considered on the merits of their own individual financial standing.

Please review the bank statements provided for the program requesting funds and make any decision on the basis of their own financial performance.

A class was recently asked by a teacher what they would do if they had $100. One child wrote,

“If I had $100, I would give it to my mother to buy food for us.”

The food in each bag costs approximately $10. A lot of money? Sure. But without their weekend backpacks, thousands of children will go hungry for 68 hours each week. Every dollar helps.

We looked through the backpack and explored what was inside (“Yum! I love tuna fish!”). We practiced wearing the backpack so they were familiar with how heavy they were before going home on the bus. I asked them to be patient and wait until they were in their homes to open the backpack up again. (ie. no snacking on the bus…) I told them to return the empty backpack to my room on Monday so it could be refilled. And I answered any questions they might have.

I wish you could have seen the looks on their faces. I am so incredibly thankful to all of you who are making this happen.
