Answering the door was not high on our list after Brian and I lost our daughter Grace nearly 18 years ago to a true knot in her umbilical cord when I was nine months pregnant. 

We didn’t realize stillbirth was still happening in our world – until it happened to us.  

We were heartbroken, grieving, and angry to discover stillbirths were way more common in the U.S. than anyone was comfortable admitting.  My maternal grandma lost a baby to stillbirth 83 years earlier, almost to the day we lost Grace.  How could this still be happening??? 

Grace kept tugging at our hearts and signs kept appearing that led us to “answer the door.”

Grace drew me to four other moms – Tiffan, Jan, Kerry and Kate – who each also lost a baby girl.  Together, we cried our way through our grief and then turned our tears into action.  

Our goal was simple, “if we could just save one baby…”  

We had no idea back then how many lives we'd touch through Count the Kicks.  We had no idea how many people would help us along the way and connect to our cause.
