If you know me, you know I love my dog, Atticus. When I showed up to the Independent Animal Rescue foster parent's house to meet Atticus, what I got was a black and white mass of pure kinetic energy that, tongue lolling, jumped up and nearly knocked me over!  Shortly after that initial introduction, he tried to clamber into my lap, which was simply not possibly because he was 70 lbs and I was sitting on a small patio chair. I thought... well, this dog is a real handful. And he was a real handful, but I loved his exuberance and sweetness. Over the past 5 years, we have been on many adventures and we have both matured. His favorite place is still my lap, where he is right now, sleeping and occasionally twitching. My husband's rescue dog, Curie, is his constant companion and has helped him weather the difficult moments when we are gone.

I am grateful to IAR for rescuing Atticus and for giving me the opportunity to adopt him. IAR does really remarkable work for both dogs and cats. This organization is made up of dedicated and experienced volunteers who take on some very difficult cases and work miracles. I started volunteering for IAR in 2018 and have been mostly involved in fundraising. I am currently leading the fundraising team within IAR and I am also on the Board of Directors.
