Team D200 Shares is back for our 6th year - because hunger is here in a bigger way than ever before.
It's shocking to me that over 28% of students in my area don't know when they'll get a meal. They're considered "food insecure" ... we've all got insecurities of one type or another, but being able to eat shouldn't be one of them.
As a parent, as a community member, I've made it my mission to work with NIFB to find ways to solve hunger. Creating a team, raising money through the fun run, talking to my community about the race and why I got involved - it's a small thing compared to the parent trying to figure out how they're going to put a meal on the table for their family.
Please join me in making a difference in the lives of a hungry neighbor. The money raised by this team goes directly to fund mobile pantries that we bring to our area each month. And each month between 100-120 families come out and receive nutritious foods like milk, eggs, meats, produce and shelf staples that they can use to create about 2 weeks worth of meals. They can send their kids to school with full bellies, ready to learn.
Each mobile pantry requires $1,700 of donations ... so we have a big goal! We want to keep our commitment of a mobile each month, a gift of hope that our community has come to count on. Our most recent mobile helped 229 families - more than EVER before. The need grows each week this pandemic goes on. Families that have never felt the strain of how to feed their families are feeling it now - and these mobiles offer them hope. We do not discriminate. Everyone who shows up receives food - until the truck is empty.
