What makes a team?  I've been wondering aout this lately and one definition from my Oxford American Dictionary is "people working together" - I like that plain truth but there are teams and then there are teams.

Robin Rodar is my teammate for The First Tee SF marathon golf fundraiser.  Robin was not always interested in golf though, she did not like it!  Years ago Robin noticed that her son, Jake and huband, Sam had been spending an unual amount of time learning and playing golf (mostly with my husband, Ransom).  she felt left out and Ransom knew it.  One evening Ransom decided to tease Robin about taking a golf trip to Scotland - not just any trip but a "guy" trip that meant Robin wasn't invited.  Many of us advised Ransom NOT TO GO THERE since Robin had been trying to get Sam to go on a trip to Europe for years to no avail, but he did not heed our warning.  Her reaction was swift and to the chest!  It was the first time in over 30 years of friendship Robin was furious at Ransom, and Sam, and Jake, too.  Well, I don't knowif she had never been mad at Sam or Jake but she had never been mad at Ransom!  After much hysterics and a few strategic pumches, Ransom fessed up, he was kidding AGAIN!

As a result, she decided she better take up golf or she would never see her son or her husband or maybe trave!  By 2001 (or was it 2003) Sam, Robin, Ransom, Tony Ivey, and I went to Scotland together to play golf.

Robin was a clear choice for a teammate for me in this golf marathon.  The truth is Robin isn't afraid of a challenge; she will roll up her sleeves and get right in there - she doesn't give up, she perseveres (Perseverance - one of the Core Values of the first Tee of Santa Fe).
