Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the different types of registrations for Get Gored for Good?
    • Get Gored for Good is all about doing something positive for our neighbors in need together as a community, and many of our participants choose to build a team to pool their fundraising efforts and build up a little extra excitement. If you aren't interested in joining or creating a team, we also have lots of individual participants and would love to see you there! Also, please note that you are able to register for and participate in the 5k, the obstacle fun run (approximately 1.5 miles), or BOTH for the same price.
  • I really believe in the Amos House mission, but "fundraising" sounds sort of intimidating. Is it a must?
    • Get Gored for Good is one Amos House's biggest and most important fundraisers of the year, and its success is vital to keeping our programs strong. We know that the idea of raising money can be intimidating, but we've found that most people are surprisingly comfortable asking when it's for a cause they believe in. When you register, you're able to set your personal or team goal as high or as low as you'd like, and if you choose not to fundraise, we are still so grateful for your support as a participant. That said, if every participant raises just $50, it will mean an extra $20,000+ for our programs! Game to try, but not sure where to start? Click here for some ideas we've put together!
  • I'm not able to participate in the event, but I'd love to volunteer. Who should I contact?
    • Thanks for asking! Volunteers are an important and valued part of Get Gored for Good, and we'd love to welcome you to our volunteer team as long as you're over the age of 14. Please contact event coordinator, Kim Soltero, at ksoltero@amoshouse.com for more information and to sign up.
  • How can my company sponsor the event, support you with volunteers, or offer an in-kind donation?
    • If your company is interested in donating money, volunteers, or product to Get Gored for Good, we've love to hear from you! Please reach out to event coordinator, Kim Soltero, at ksoltero@amoshouse.com. We love our corporate sponsors and are committed to sharing that love with all our event participants before, during, and after race day!
  • I'd like to participate using my wheelchair. Is the course accessible?
    • It is! The 5k portion of the event takes place on closed roads throughout Downcity Providence, and is completely wheelchair accessible. Due to the nature of the obstacles on the obstacle fun run, we welcome your sideline involvement as a cheerleader or coach!
  • I *love* race swag! Whatcha got?
    • That's such a coincidence, we love it too! Every participant will receive a Get Gored for Good 2019 t-shirt and cinch sack. Team captains will also receive a special package in the mail from us before the event to help them build their team and kick off their fundraising efforts with style. And of course there will be a few race day surprises and prizes!
  • Tell me more about the Burnside Park after party!
    • Live music, food catered by Amos House's very own More Than a Meal program, beverages of both the all-ages and adult variety, activities and games . . . it's an EPIC street party complete with a mechanical bull (in case you're hungry for more bull action after the races)!
  • How is the money raised by the event used by Amos House?
    • As one of Rhode Island's leading social services nonprofits, we take our responsibility to our guests and our donors very seriously and work hard to balance the details that make an event fun and successful with the cost-consciousness that ensures that your fundraising efforts truly go toward supporting the life-changing programs Amos House is known for. About Amos House

Education, a job, a family, a home . . . these are dreams we all share. For over 40 years, Amos House has been committed to offering our neighbors opportunities to achieve those dreams through hard work, access to safe housing, and training programs for skilled employment—and every day we see the power of second chances as families become not just self-sufficient, but motivated to set new goals for success.

In 2012, Get Gored for Good was introduced and quickly became Amos House's most popular fundraiser. Now in its 7th year, Get Gored for Good—an all ages, all abilities obstacle run and 5k event modeled after Pamplona, Spain’s famous “running of the bulls”—is a fun, community-based event that raises both money and awareness in support of hunger and homelessness relief in Rhode Island. “Bulls” from roller derbys around New England “gore” participants with washable paint as individual and team participants run the gauntlet of our Downcity race course before finishing at Burnside Park for an afterparty complete with food, drink, and games for all ages.
