I’m beyond excited to represent and run alongside Team Good Grief in the New York City Marathon. Good Grief is a nonprofit that provides free support to children and families after the death of a parent or sibling. By creating spaces for open conversation and peer connection, they help families navigate loss together, ensuring that no one has to grieve alone.
My Story:
This past October, my family received the heartbreaking news that my younger brother, Cedric, had passed away. It was completely unexpected, and none of us could have prepared for it. With my family based in Canada and me living in New York, I often felt isolated and struggled to find ways to cope with the loss. It's true when they say grief isn’t linear. Some days felt manageable, others the emotions hit when you least expect them. I turned to running as a way to process my emotions, and clear my head. Along the way, I found an incredible community of people who created space for me to talk openly about grief and simply showed up to run beside me. That presence made all the difference.
I can’t imagine navigating a loss like this at a young age. The environment that Good Grief creates is so important for children and families who may not yet have the tools or space to understand what they’re feeling.
I'm incredibly grateful to be apart of this team and for the opportunity to run in the best marathon in the world. Every mile—both in training and on race day—is dedicated to Cedric, my teammates, and anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. If you’re in the city and want to join me for a run, I’d love the company!
