International Day of the Girl: The Road to 200
The Road to 200 Starts Here.
This school year, Girls Gotta Run Foundation (GGRF) is celebrating a powerful milestone:
We’ve reached 200 Athletic Scholars across Ethiopia — the most in our history.
These girls are runners, students, leaders, and changemakers. Every day, they lace up their shoes on the track, raise their hands in the classroom, and step into their power — breaking barriers in their communities and building a better future for themselves and others.
International Day of the Girl (October 11) is a global call to action to recognize girls’ rights and amplify their voices. Established by the United Nations in 2011, the day shines a light on the unique challenges girls face worldwide — from access to education to early marriage — and celebrates their potential to lead change when given the opportunity. This October, in honor of International Day of the Girl, we’re rallying our global community to walk — or run — alongside them.
Powered by Girls. Fueled by Community.
Be a part of the movement.
GGRF’s holistic program provides access to education, leadership training, life skills, and athletics — tools that empower girls to stay in school, delay marriage, and lead. Whether you’re donating, fundraising, or organizing an event, you are fueling real opportunity for girls.
Your support will invest in girls like Bethlehem, a GGRF Athletic Scholar in Wolaita Sodo who recently ranked #1 among all Grade 9 students at her school. She dreams of becoming a cardiologist—and thanks to academic scholarships, hot school lunches, and life skills training, she’s on her way. “I tell other girls: never give up, and dream farther than you ever imagined,” she says. With your help, we can continue expanding these opportunities—ensuring every girl in our program has the resources to thrive and lead.
How You Can Help:
✅ Host a Pop-Up 5K — Organize a fun run or walk in your community to raise funds and awareness.
✅ Start an IDG Team — Rally your friends, family, or colleagues to fundraise together in honor of girls in the program.
✅ Donate — Every dollar supports the scholarship, meals, supplies, and coaching that keep girls in school and on track.
✅ Spread the word — Share this campaign on social and help us reach more supporters.
Last year we raised $25,000 --- will you help us raise more this year?
- $25 provides menstrual pads for 1 Athletic Scholars for the year
- $50 provides a year's school supplies (backpack, uniform, and notebooks, pens) for 1 Athletic Scholar
- $100 provides one week of Self-Defense classes to empower girls against abduction
- $500 provides a year's worth of hot school lunches for 1 Athletic Scholar
- $1,200 provides a girl and her family with a 1-Year Scholarship
No amount is too small. Every step counts on the #RoadTo200.
Let’s celebrate girls — their power, their dreams, their unstoppable momentum.
Join us. Give today. Be the fuel behind the movement.
