This is an unusual time. We're stuck at home, isolated, and feeling a bit vulnerable to a serious infectious disease for the first time. How will we respond?

I'm choosing to join an online community through which to stay active and address one of the largest causes of endemic diseases around the world: poor shelter. We're collectively undertaking 50,000 miles to virtually traverse the globe -- 80 countries in 80 days -- and raise at least $200,000, with your help.

 I am putting together a team called African Safari (which means "journey" in Swahili) to address the problem of poor housing in Sub-Saharan Africa.  The region of the world with the largest percentage of people living in extreme poverty is Sub-Saharan Africa.  You can find additional information on extreme poverty at this website: https://www.worldvision.org/sponsorship-news-stories/global-poverty-facts.  By joining or contributing to our team you can help us in the effort to overcome extreme poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa. 

Globally, houses of mud walls and floors combined with poor sanitation create an environment for life-threatening diseases like Chagas, severe diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, and malaria. Diarrhea alone claims the lives of more than 800,000 children every year (Source: CDC).

The work of The Fuller Center for Housing seeks to address these issues. It's an ecumenical Christian 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping families of all backgrounds have decent, healthy homes in 70 communities around the USA and in 19 countries around the world including 6 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.. With the devastating loss of volunteer trips and fundraising events, all at a time when people are being told to 'stay in your homes,' this support is needed now more than ever.
