I am honored to serve as the President of the board of directors for Human Options, an Orange County-based non-profit making an impact in our community since 1981. We envision a future in which every person and family in Orange County experiences safe, healthy relationships and lives free from fear.  A vision that is impacted now more than ever as families in already volatile homes are challenged with economic and job uncertainties. This combination can be the perfect storm for domestic violence.

Right now, our services are even more important. Our emergency hotline, shelter, and local law enforcement have seen a 25% uptick in domestic violence and child abuse incidents over the last month. Our staff is hearing from families in need of emergency shelter, assistance with basic needs such as food and rental assistance along with emotional support and safety planning during this time of stay at home orders.

I know our programs are effective, our staff is professional and committed, and our impact in the community is significant. Last year we:

• Housed nearly 500 women, children, and men at our residential programs
• Helped 1,100 seniors enduring elder abuse find safety and healing
• Answered and provided resources to over 4,800 calls on our 24/7 hotline
• Provided counseling, legal advocacy, parent coaching, and resource referrals to 1,412 families in our community at our six community-based walk-in centers

We are committed to making sure our doors stay open and our services remain available in the community.
