2022 marks the third year of living through a global pandemic and all the impacts it has had on the lives of Americans. Many families are living paycheck to paycheck, and rising inflation means most are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of food, gas, housing, and so much more.
Nationwide, 66% of US households are having difficulty making ends meet and children in Black and Hispanic families are twice as likely as white children to face hunger in America.
When disaster strikes, like brutal winter weather, tornadoes, wildfires, or man-made tragedies, the need for urgent aid and support grows exponentially, especially for families already vulnerable to poverty and suffering.

IRUSA is Serving Our Neighbors in Need
IRUSA is dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities across the country, ensuring that families have shelter, kids have food, and disaster survivors and refugees get the support they need.
Here are just some of the projects we’re implementing in the US:
Afghan Refugee Resettlement: IRUSA is working to resettle arriving Afghan refugees and help them begin their life in America. We’ll resettle approximately 2,000 refugees and provide essential support to refugee families including medical care, legal support, rental assistance, and financial support for basic needs like food and hygiene products.
Meal Packs: IRUSA volunteers, also known as Blueshirts, come together to pack nutritious meals for families in need across the country. Volunteers have packed millions of meals through this amazing effort–yes, MILLIONS!
Food Boxes: This Ramadan, we’re packing over 10,000 food boxes for Americans in greatest need including individuals from low-income areas, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. Each food box will feed an average family of 4-6 people and will include shelf-stable foods including rice, flour, sugar, vegetable oil, pasta, and much more.
Disaster Response: When disaster strikes, our Disaster Management Team (DMT) responds quickly to get vital resources to survivors as effectively and efficiently as possible. Recent emergencies that our DRT responded to include the Bronx apartment fire, the Midwest tornado outbreak, and Hurricane Ida in Louisiana.
