Last January our family went to the Thar desert in Rajasthan, India to dig holes in the dry desert floor. We did this because Nioma Sadler, our beloved sister and friend has been working in this region to make it easier for women to take control of their lives by giving them access to water. Nioma's organization, Womenserve, has donated Taankas so that familiies can have water in their own village and save the women countless hours walking and carrying water and do things instead like go to school. In January, we dug a Taanka for Arushi's home. Arushi is only three years old and a beautiful girl with perhaps a different future than the one her mother had.
