ABOUT ME
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2020 at the young age of 26. After more testing, a month later we discovered that the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes and liver and was therefore stage IV, or metastatic. It is impossible to describe the complete devastation, shock, and defeat that I felt at the time of diagnosis. No one should ever have to receive a cancer diagnosis, but given my background, it made no sense. I was young and healthy, had no family history of breast cancer, and my genetic testing was all negative.
These past few years have been extremely difficult, knowing there is no cure for this terrible, terminal disease. I have been on numerous treatments over the past 4.5+ years, trying to find something to prolong my life and keep the cancer from growing. After many ineffective treatments (meaning there was cancer growth), I made the decision to enroll in my second clinical trial. Thankfully, this trial has been successful thus far, and we have seen shrinking cancer cells with each scan. I am so grateful for the ability to enroll in this effective trial. As you can see, new research is quite literally saving my life.
This is why I support METAvivor. Without this campaign, there would not be enough funds to complete the research that is so necessary for those of us with stage IV cancer to live long and happy lives. Only 31% of U.S. MBC patients live longer than five years. This is the devastating truth. As I approach five years since my diagnosis, I have seen many of my fellow thrivers pass away way too soon and often wonder when it will be my time. It is heartbreaking and so unfair. It is my prayer that thanks to your generosity and support of METAvivor, successful clinical trial’s can be available to so many others, and that we will one day find a cure for this disease.
WHAT IS #LightUpMBC ?
The #LightUpMBC campaign is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research to benefit METAvivor. Held annually in October, the campaign partners with hundreds of iconic landmarks around the world to illuminate in the symbolic MBC awareness colors of green, teal, and pink. By uniting patients, families, and supporters, #LightUpMBC shines a spotlight on the urgent need for more research and resources to improve outcomes for MBC patients.
#LightUpMBC Live is a dynamic virtual event that serves as the centerpiece of the #LightUpMBC campaign, bringing together the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) community and its supporters for an evening of storytelling, inspiration, and impact. Hosted annually on October 13 on Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, this live-streamed program features powerful stories from MBC patients and their families, musical performances, and appearances by special guests who amplify the mission of raising awareness and funds for MBC research. #LightUpMBC Live provides a platform for education and advocacy, highlighting the urgency of funding scientific breakthroughs for the most advanced stage of breast cancer.
