Thank you for visiting the #LightUpMBC 2026 Fundraising Campaign to benefit METAvivor!

WHAT IS #LightUpMBC?

The #LightUpMBC campaign is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research to benefit METAvivor. Held annually in October, the campaign partners with hundreds of iconic landmarks around the world to illuminate in the symbolic MBC awareness colors of green, teal and pink. By uniting patients, families, and supporters, #LightUpMBC shines a spotlight on the urgent need for more research and resources to improve outcomes for MBC patients.

#LightUpMBC Live is a dynamic virtual event that serves as the centerpiece of the #LightUpMBC campaign, bringing together the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) community and its supporters for an evening of storytelling, inspiration, and impact. Hosted annually on October 13 on Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, this live-streamed program features powerful stories from MBC patients and their families, musical performances, and appearances by special guests who amplify the mission of raising awareness and funds for MBC research. #LightUpMBC Live provides a platform for education and advocacy, highlighting the urgency of funding scientific breakthroughs for the most advanced stage of breast cancer. ABOUT METASTATIC BREAST CANCER

Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is stage 4 breast cancer, for which there is no cure. Over 685,000 people die each year globally from MBC, with over 43,000 dying each year in the U.S. alone (117 per day). Metastatic breast cancer spreads mostly to the bones, liver, lungs and the brain, causing MBC patients to be in treatment for the rest of their lives – with only 31% of U.S. MBC patients living longer than 5 years. Approximately 30% of early stage breast cancers recur as stage 4 MBC. If you know someone who has died of breast cancer, that means it was metastatic breast cancer. We are working hard to change these statistics!

WHY GREEN, TEAL AND PINK?

While the pink ribbon is well-known for representing the fight against breast cancer, many patients feel it is not inclusive of the Stage 4 breast cancer experience. To highlight the uniqueness of MBC, METAvivor designed a tri-color ribbon of green, teal and pink. Green represents renewal, hope, and immortality while teal symbolizes healing and spirituality. The pink ribbon overlay signifies the metastatic cancer originated in the breast.

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE #LightUpMBC CAMPAIGN

#LightUpMBC was created in honor and loving memory of Jessica Moore (pictured).  Jessica was loved by all who knew her and always found something to be grateful for. She embodied the word 'care' and dedicated her life as a nurse to helping others. At the age of 32, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and passed away from the disease less than 4 years later. Jessica was a strong advocate and wanted to bring attention to the lack of funding the disease receives. We carry on her vision and mission through the #LightUpMBC Campaign.
