ABOUT ME
At just 36 years old, in January 2026, my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC). I had never had breast cancer before, and this diagnosis came as a complete shock.
I was the one who found two lumps on my own. After many appointments, tests, and questions, I was ultimately sent for a PET scan after doctors noticed suspicious lymph nodes near my clavicle. The scan revealed what no one ever wants to hear: the cancer had already spread.
I have two family members, my mom and maternal aunt, who have both had early-stage breast cancer, but we have no known genetic history of breast cancer.
My diagnosis is HR-positive, HER2-low invasive ductal carcinoma with metastases in my bones.
But beyond the diagnosis, I am a wife and a mom to two amazing boys. I’ve been with my husband since I was 18 years old, and together we have built a life and a family that means everything to me. My biggest reason for fighting is my boys. I want to be here for the everyday moments, the milestones, the memories, and all of the life still ahead of us.
Metastatic breast cancer is considered treatable but not currently curable, which means this is a lifelong battle that I never expected to face at 36. Treatment, appointments, scans, medications, and the uncertainty of what comes next have become part of our lives.
One thing my husband and I decided early on was that we didn't want to navigate this journey in silence. We started our podcast and Instagram, "Her Cancer, Our Story," to share what it really looks like to navigate a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis together—as a couple, as parents, and as a family.
Through the podcast, we talk openly about our experiences, the realities of living with metastatic breast cancer, the things we’re learning along the way, and the challenges that come with navigating this diagnosis. We also feature guest interviews with people who bring different perspectives and experiences to the MBC community.
Our hope is that by sharing our story, we can help someone else feel a little less alone, give families a glimpse into what this journey can look like, and create conversations around metastatic breast cancer that might otherwise not happen.
WHAT IS #LightUpMBC ?
The #LightUpMBC campaign is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds for metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research to benefit METAvivor. Held annually in October, the campaign partners with hundreds of iconic landmarks around the world to illuminate in the symbolic MBC awareness colors of green, teal, and pink. By uniting patients, families, and supporters, #LightUpMBC shines a spotlight on the urgent need for more research and resources to improve outcomes for MBC patients.
#LightUpMBC Live is a dynamic virtual event that serves as the centerpiece of the #LightUpMBC campaign, bringing together the metastatic breast cancer (MBC) community and its supporters for an evening of storytelling, inspiration, and impact. Hosted annually on October 13 on Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, this live-streamed program features powerful stories from MBC patients and their families, musical performances, and appearances by special guests who amplify the mission of raising awareness and funds for MBC research. #LightUpMBC Live provides a platform for education and advocacy, highlighting the urgency of funding scientific breakthroughs for the most advanced stage of breast cancer.
