As many of you know our sister Hilary and her husband Tyler lost their first son Oliver at 34 weeks gestation. Up until this point Hilary's pregnancy was seamless and healthy. It was during a routine pre-natal appointment where she heard the words from the doctor, "I'm sorry Hilary but there is no heartbeat." No one should have to experience such shock and tragedy. Our family continues to honor dear Oliver's memory by holding the Let's Not Be Still annual event. My sister and Tyler and my mom are on the board of the Star Legacy New York Chapter. They are working extremely hard with many others for change.
We need more research, more education, more steps towards prevention in order to lower the alarming statistic of 1 in 160 babies who are stillborn.
As the chair of the Star Legacy Foundation NY Metro Chapter Hilary and her team are working to make a difference and to raise awareness for this imporant cause that is not given nearly enough attention. Until we had Oliver we had no idea. Since Oliver was born still we have learned a lot. One of the things we have learned is that we need more awareness and research to lower this alarming incidence of stillbirth. We also have learned that Star Legacy Foundation is leading the way in supporting research. Once we spoke about Oliver we learned about so many other families that had experienced stillbirth or knew someone who did. We cannot be silent about stillbirth.
