October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month. We lost our baby girl Maxine on July 21st, 2020. Maxine was born still, at 25 weeks. We don't know why we lost her, and have learned that not only is this an incredibly sad road, but one that needs more research. We don't have any answers to why this happened to us yet, as all the tests have come back as normal. Doctors say "sometimes this just happens and we don't know why". As many as 2/3 of all stillbirth families will never know what caused their baby's death. Let's change that. To honor Maxine, we are raising money to support SLF’s mission to prevent future stillbirths and support grieving families.
Please consider donating to Star Legacy Foundation, their organization is dedicated to reducing pregnancy loss, neonatal death, & improving care for families who experience the heartache we did. They were there for me when I didn't know who to turn to. They called me to check on our family, emailed me resources, assigned me a peer counselor, and I will always be grateful for the empathy and compassion they have shown me.
On Sunday, October 18th, our family will join fellow members of the Star Legacy Foundation New York Metro Chapter to take part in the 5k/walk. This won't be a community event this year due to COVID, but we will be walking in our own neighborhoods in solidarity. Please join us in this fundraiser, to remember our angel Maxine, and honor all children who were lost too soon.
