It's been a full year since I started working for Literacy New Jersey as a Literacy Specialist! Over this year, I have seen firsthand what an amazing service this organization provides to support and uplift adults of all different ages and backgrounds. The students I work with are so grateful for an opportunity to better their lives. Some of them work full-time jobs, take care of their families and also make sure they attend classes weekly so that they can improve their English language skills. When I speak to them about their goals, they all have very similar answers,they want to learn English to get a better job, or help their kids with their school work. A lot of our students have also become citizens thanks to the citizenship classes we offer. They are so grateful to have access to these free classes with their limited budgets.
During the pandemic, we’ve all worked together to make the impossible possible. Almost 2,000 students have engaged in remote learning and 565 volunteer tutors have become online instructors. COVID could not stop this amazing team of students and tutors.
