I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve, coarctation of the aorta, and ventricular septal defect. I am alive today because of the surgery I had access to as a baby to correct my coarctation. But I still suffer from congenital heart disease.

About 1% of all newborns are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) and a quarter of those suffer from a critical defect that is life threatening without intervention.

Outcomes have improved immensely even in the past 20 years, but CHDs still impact so many lives and more research is needed to continue to save childrens' lives.
