Every year around this time, I find myself looking back at how far we’ve come as a family. For 16 years now, our daily reality has been shaped by managing bleeding disorders for both my son and my daughter.

Unless you’ve lived it, it’s hard to capture what the medication routine really entails. Sixteen years of precise, high-stakes treatments, keeping up with constant medication schedules, finding usable veins on small arms, managing painful bleeds, and handling the endless anxiety that comes with every bump, bruise, or unexpected swell. It takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on the kids, but through every single obstacle, puncture, and flare-up, their resilience continues to blow me away.

That is why we step out every year for the Unite for Bleeding Disorders Walk—to advocate for better treatments, stronger support systems, and one day, a cure.
