"This is Mavericks journey to birth. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for 9 years and went through IVF, the only embryo to make it was Maverick. This pregnancy was my first, and throughout my pregnancy I didn't feel movements much from Maverick. Everything else with my health was good, I'm pre-diabetic and my levels were better than they were before becoming pregnant. My doctor monitored the low movement with a stress test once a week, and progressed the stress tests to twice a week the week of his birth.
The day of Mavericks birth (35 weeks pregnant), I woke up after having a dream that I had to put him in a clear box and got ready for the stress test appointment I had that day. I remember thinking when I got up that day, my stomach felt heavier, I had the thought that it felt like dead weight. I went to the appointment and laid down on the table for the stress test, the nurse searched and searched my belly, after searching and having me drink some cold water and flicking my belly, she still couldnt find a heartbeat, she told me she would get the ultrasound tech. The ultrasound tech started, and looked up at me and said "there is no heartbeat". She immediately walked out of the room and left me on the table, she stood in the hallway with a horrified look on her face. I wiped off my belly and went to the hallway and she directed me back to the room I was in. My doctor entered and explained to me that there is no heartbeat so we scheduled the delivery, it would be a cesarean section as baby was breach. My doctor told me that the umbilical cord looked like a water hose, that it was twisted and kinked.
Everyone important to us was able to meet our son. But what I loved most about what was the worst day of my life was that Maverick was put in a cuddle cot and he stayed with us in the hospital room for our entire stay until the funeral home came and got him. His name was chosen because his father is a veteran and used to work on jets in the military. Maverick is our guiding light and we cherish the couple of days we got to hold him and take pictures." - Kylie, Maverick's Mom
