Frequently Asked Questions

If any of your questions are not addressed below, please free free to reach out to Kady at Kady@forestparkconservancy.org.

Q: Do miles need to be logged in Forest Park to count?

No, miles can be logged anywhere!

While we plan to hold some fun events in Forest Park throughout Miles for Forest Park, we want anyone and everyone to be able to participate. That means your bike ride along the esplanade, your hike in the gorge, or you walk while on your summer vacation will count toward your total mileage. Just remember to keep track of your miles! We will ask for those numbers from you once a month to calculate how many raffle tickets you have earned.

Q. I didn't sign up before June 1, is it too late?

It's not too late! You can sign up anytime before National Public Lands Day on September 28, 2019. Once you're signed up you can start logging your miles for the chance to win some great prizes and support Forest Park.

Q: How do I track my miles?

We do not require that you track your miles on bike or by foot in one way. Participants will be emailed once a month to submit their total mileage for their miles covered by bike and/or by foot and will receive raffle tickets based on thier achievements.

Q: How do I win those awesome prizes?

Miles for Forest Park participants will receive raffle tickets for their achievments which they will then submit for prizes at the end of the event.

The Top Fundraising Team, Top Fundraising Individual, Top Mile Earning Team and Top Mile Earning Individual are guaranteed to win the amazing prizes listed on our Prize Tab!

Here's the breakdown of how raffle tickets are accrued:

1 Raffle Ticket is earned for every:

  • $10 raised
  • 5 miles by foot
  • 20 miles biked

(e.g. 100 miles on foot = 20 Raffle Tickets)

Q: How do I win "Best Adventure Photo"?

Tag @forestparkconservancypdx on Instagram with the hashtag #milesforforestpark to enter to win!

Not on Instagram? Submit your Adventure Photo to: milesforforestpark@forestparkconservancy.org

Forest Park Conservancy will select a winner at the end of the Miles for Forest Park, after 9/28! Winners will win a guaranteed prize and will be featured in the organization's social media and e-newsletter platforms.

Q: Can kiddos participate?

Absolutely! When an adult signs up for Miles for Forest Park they can add children. Paricipation is free for children!

Q: Why support the Forest Park Conservancy?

Everything about Forest Park is impressive: its size (the nation’s largest forested urban park, spanning 5,200 acres); its unique environment (home to 112 bird species, 62 mammals, and hundreds of native plants) and the opportunities it provides us (80 miles of trails for outdoor recreation). Forest Park is a precious natural treasure that plays a major role in the quality of life we enjoy in the Portland-metro region, contributing to clean water and air, while also offering an abundance of outdoor recreation in the heart of a rapidly-growing urban area.

Forest Park Conservancy's mission is focused on protecting Forest Park's ecological health while encouraging responsible recreation and access. We believe these values are not only consistent, they are interdependent: the more people visit Forest Park and experience just how special a place this is, the more the public will support and value it. And the more people value this unique urban forest, the brighter its future will be. That's why our stewardship staff, seasonal technicians, and 1,500+ volunteers spend many hours in the field every year.
