In 1981, at eleven years old, I was told that my mom had Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. After four years of being sick and many rounds of now outdated chemotherapy, my
mom passed away on January 24, 1985. She was 39 years old and I was 15. I was surrounded
by love, family, amazing friends, and I’ve built a very happy life.  

In 2021 my husband Kenny was told that he had an aggressively spreading Non Hodgkin’s
Lymphoma. Kenny had the great fortune to be treated at the Levine Cancer Institute (LCI) in
Charlotte, NC and they saved his life. So much has changed about cancer care in the 40 years
since my mom was first diagnosed.. Every aspect of Kenny’s care was so far advanced from
what my mom had received and thankfully, Kenny’s cancer remains in remission for the past
four years. 

I am honored to be the first Giver of Hope for the Musicland Gift Foundation. Our efforts and
your contribution will benefit the creation of the first National Model for Cancer Survivorship led by
Advocate Health Levine Cancer Institute. This is an extraordinary effort developed by the leadership team at LCI to advance cancer care as we know it.  They will be at the forefront of defining what whole-person, patient-centered care looks like within this structure.  It will serve as a worldwide model for Cancer Survivorship and include a national cancer service line, philanthropic support to benefit ongoing patient needs, clinical trials, research and education. 

This comprehensive effort will change cancer as we know it and your contribution will have an
impact that improves the lives of thousands of people on their cancer journey. By investing in this model, donors are not just supporting a local initiative - they are helping to set a new standard for cancer care nationwide.

I miss my mom every day of my life and I’m thankful to all the incredible people who dedicate
their lives to improving cancer care and making cancer survivorship possible.
