May is NEC Awareness Month, and May 17 is NEC Awareness Day.
We're teaming up again this year with the NEC Society to spread awareness about necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Join us in supporting the NEC Society's work to advance NEC research, education, and advocacy so we can build a world where no family is devastated by this disease.
Ways to participate:
1. Exercise and dedicate your workout to Rex!
On May 17th, NEC Awareness Day (or anytime during the month of May) dedicate your workout to Rex! Take a walk, lift some weights, do some yoga, go for a run, or anything to get your body moving! Snap a picture or video and share across social media. Use the following hashtags to help spread awareness for NEC: #Rexercise #preventNEC #NECawareness. Consider making a donation in his honor.

3. Join us for a Donation-Based Fitness Class with EnergyX Fitness @ Dos Sirenos Brewing!
This year, in collaboration with EnergyX Fitness, Rexercise is being hosted at a local brewery, Dos Sirenos Brewing. Joins us for a KB workout or Yoga session followed by a bruch social.

Why Rexercise?
Background: On November 27th, 2023, Rexton was born 16 weeks premature and had a 50% chance of surviving delivery. At a weight of 1.2 lbs and 11.5 inches long, he fought bravely to be part of this world. At two weeks old, the doctors discovered he had a heart defect - ventricular septal defect (VSD). Just a few days later he developed NEC, and within hours, he had severe intestinal perforations. He tragically passed away in his mother's arms at 20 days old in the NICU. Help us honor and remember the life of Rex by joining our event and donating to the NEC society!
The NEC Society's mission means a great deal to us, and we hope you can join us in supporting their urgent mission to protect babies from necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). This cruel disease is one of the leading causes of death in NICUs and the most common and serious gastrointestinal disease affecting newborns. Yet, few people outside the NICU have heard of the disease.
Right now, there is no cure for NEC. That is unacceptable with more than one baby per day dying from complications of this disease. No family should ever have to experience the loss of a child.
