Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a leading cause of death for premature infants. Right now, treatment and prevention options for NEC are inadequate. The NEC Society is the world's leading nonprofit dedicated to building a world without NEC through the advancement of research, education, and advocacy.
Medela is fundraising for a world without NEC because mother's own milk offers the best protection against NEC. When mother's own milk is not available, pasteurized donor human milk is the next best option. To build a world without NEC, all babies need equitable access to human milk. We must prioritize maternal health and lactation support in and beyond the NICU.
As part of this effort, Medela is bringing together a global team to participate in the NEC Awareness Run/Walk on May 16—raising funds, increasing awareness, and uniting communities around the shared vision of a world without NEC.
