I'm participating in No Shave November to honor those I know who have or have had cancer. If you want to contribute, please visit my fundraising page to make a donation.
When deciding on whether to participate in No Shave November I did a tally of people I know who have or who have had cancer and frankly I was taken aback. In my neighborhood of 30 families, there are 3 who have had cancer, one of whom passed recently, and another who recently lost a family member to cancer. In my family, my mother, sister and wife have had or have cancer, and my wife’s mother and aunt both had cancer. I also know of at least 8 friends who have or have had cancer, including a very dear friend, Bruce Kaye, who we lost to cancer in 2017. That’s a lot of people in my small orbit. Cancer treatment has come a long way in past decades, but clearly more needs to be done. Indeed, for those with stage IV cancer the long term chemo drug might stop working after a while and the patient has to rely on new drugs to continue the fight. In my experience, these cancer patients are warriors. I want to be there to support them, and to do what I can to fight back, such as raising money for cancer research. Hence, No Shave November.
