I am SO EXCITED to be a part of NYSX's Leadership Council. I have loved NYSX since performing in the 2017 production of Much Ado About Nothing, which ran in NYC and College Station, TX. That production was one of my favorite shows I've ever been in, and the ShakesBEER Pub Crawls I've been a part of have been an absolute hoot! I've always admired the sense of adventure at NYSX. The company is always looking for new ways to connect with new audiences and create fresh, original theatrical experiences.
This coming year, NYSX is producing a wide array of brand new programming here in NYC and beyond. I am particularly jazzed to be a lead producer on NYSX's first live, in-person production since the onset of COVID 19. The show is... drumroll please... Shakespeaer's THE WINTER'S TALE. Yes, you heard that right: live, in-person theatre. I adore this play, and it is the perfect fit for this moment. It's about lost time, forgiveness and healing. This production will be outdoors (so we can enjoy live theartre while staying safe), with performances in Fall 2021. More details TBA!
What else is the LC up to?
- The Voices Project - A growing catalogue of videos created by Shakespeare performers who are under-represented in the American classical theatre, which highlight how Shakespeare's words resonate through the filters of their own identities and experiences.
- Virtual Education Workshops - Thanks to remote learning tools, NYSX artists have been Zooming into classrooms in states like Michigan, Georgia, and Ohio, and we can't wait to add more states to that list!
- Virtual Freestyle Labs - Since 2018, our Freestyle Lab series at the 53rd Street Library has gained an enthusiastic and loyal following. THIS YEAR, we will explore how to create this town hall-style event in a virtual space, giving us a chance to invite in audiences across the country (and maybe even an ocean or two...).
None of this can happen without your support! Personally, I have never undertaken a big fundraising goal like this one for a project of mine before, but I believe so deeply in NYSX's mission to bridge cultural divides, start conversations, promote education and bring communitites together.
