Why do I value this ministry?

"He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose." - Jim Elliot

Jim Elliot remains an example of a sacrificial Christian missionary to Ecuador in the 1950s. He saw the need for the gospel to reach starving hearts far greater than his desire of a comfortable lifestyle.

However, we do not need to look past borders and oceans to find such people today. I have met the staff at City Life KIX ministry in Homestead, FL that have such a heart for the neighborhood around them. In a community where children grow up encountering youth violence and poverty, and where the echoes of gunshots at night are an all-too-familiar sound, KIX serves as a faith-based after-school program to help hurting students heal, hope, and restore to Christ. They work with the desire to save their local youth from entering a violent future, thereby breaking the cycle of pain and destruction in their lives. The Lord's laborers at KIX truly give up everything they cannot keep to gain kids the Father cannot lose.

On Friday, November 20, I volunteered at KIX with Noah Nemni (a staff member there; pictured with me in my profile). I witnessed first-hand Noah and his fellow leaders spend themselves on a Friday night for the attending youth: they had fellowship, testimonies, and the proclamation of the Word of God! I had some conversations that night with some high school students and heard how they were feeling distant from God and how KIX may be the only exposure they have to people of faith. If this is the sort of light that is shining in Homestead, then I believe such a light deserves our fervent prayer and support.

I firmly believe that God has placed KIX as a city on a hill, a place of refuge for their local youth. I want to sustain and grow such a ministry and so I ask for your prayers and donations. The funds from your giving will go towards their staffing and campus needs as they strive to be a lighthouse in Homestead. Thank you for your considerations, prayers, and generosity!
