My Story

Welcome to my personal fundraising page

Hey all – yup, it is that time of year…the time I shamelessly beg for donations for the Potter League’s annual Walk for the Animals - our biggest fundraiser of the year.

This year, I am walking for a cat named Matthew.  Matthew was left at our gate overnight a couple of weeks ago.  He was in a carrier with no information.  He was hungry, skinny, horrendously matted and had a fresh open gash on his back.

Our incredible (and I mean INCREDIBLE) staff team got to work and fixed him up, gave him a warm and cuddly place to stay and all the yummy food he wanted.  Turns out Matthew is quite elderly, and we do not know what his outcome is going to be.  Not sure if he will make it, but that is not the point of my post.  The point of my post is the Potter League was and is there for Matthew and animals like him.  Do we care why he was left there?  Do we judge the people who left him?  Are we going to dive into the drama of that?  The answer to all those questions is no.  Our job is to help and that is what we are doing.

Now, I know people will immediately want to lash out at whoever left Matthew there.  However, as in many things in our society today, we do not know his full back story.   Was he a stray found on the side of the road in the middle of the night and a good Samaritan tried to help him?  Did he belong to someone who just could not care for him any longer and rather than just set him outside, they brought him to us?  There are 100 reasons why he could have been left there and it is not our job to judge who did it or why.  At the Potter League, our mission is to help animals and people who need it.  We ask people to bring their pets to a shelter and not just leave them.  That is what these people did.

So, back to Matthew.  He is a friendly, calm, and sweet old guy.  He purrs and accepts love from our staff…his prognosis, however, is guarded.  If, in the end, he has too much going against him and we feel euthanasia is the best choice due to quality of life, it will be a quiet and peaceful end with his loving caretakers with him and he will know he is loved.  No, this is not the typical happy ending we usually post, but this is also our reality at the Potter League.  And, diagnostics, treatments, labor, medical supplies….costs a lot of money.  There, I said it.  It is expensive.  If you have a pet, you know how expensive they can be, especially if they have medical problems.  So, now that I have taken up a bunch of time, you’ll never get back ?, I just want to say thanks if you can help….and thanks for listening if you can’t.  Either way, the Potter League will continue to help the Matthews of RI and we are never going to stop.

Please make a tax-deductible gift to sponsor my participation.  Your gift will help ensure that the Potter League can continue to be there for the animals no matter what comes our way. I truly appreciate your friendship and support, as do the animals and entire team at the Potter League for Animals.

Thank you!!!!

Amy
