Whitney and I are racing 10 kilometers in support of girls' education. Any money we raise goes directly to Daraja Academy in Kenya and Whitney's education. Thank you for your help! Or, as they say in Kenya, ASANTE SANA!
Whitney is a 15-year-old girl from Meru and will graduate from Daraja with the Class of 2028. At home, she lives with her grandmother, as her mother moved away with Whitney’s siblings. Whitney does not know her mother and describes the void she feels growing up without her.
She has struggled with a lack of basic needs, which led her to take on small jobs to help provide for herself. Water was located far from home, and it would take her about two hours to fetch it.
Now at Daraja, Whitney feels she has crossed a new threshold, bringing her one step closer to her dream of becoming a cardiologist. She describes feeling overwhelmed with joy when she realized she would be able to continue her education. In her free time, Whitney enjoys reading novels and singing.
