Race Day Details

Parking 

The parking garages at Northwestern University are open for use. There is a garage at the entrance to South Campus off Sheridan Road just north of Clark Street beach. There is also a parking garage just east of Long Field on Lincoln Street across from the Henry Crown Sports Pavillion, 2311 Campus Drive. Please be aware that you may not be able to leave those garages until the final race is completed. Street parking is also available in the local neighborhood.  Pease be respectful of residents and do not block driveways. 

Inclement Weather Policy 

Sometimes there are weather events beyond our control. (A little rain in the forecast won’t stop us.) But if there is a threat of more severe weather, YWCA Evanston/North Shore is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all participants and volunteers. If race officials deem the course unsafe because of weather conditions, here’s what you need to know. 

• Race officials may cancel, delay, or change the event in case of extreme weather or other conditions that may affect the safety and health of participants. The race can be delayed for a maximum of one hour from start time. If severe weather hasn’t cleared within one hour, the race will be canceled. The race director, in consultation with other officials, will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action is necessary. 

• Volunteer course marshals will be released from their positions if the race is canceled. 

• Registration fees are nonrefundable. 

Medical issues 

There will be two ambulances parked at the north east corner of Long Field. ALL medical issues should be directed to the ambulance. If it is an emergency, call 911! 

Race Course 

The Race starts and ends at Long Field on the campus of Northwestern University, at the corner of Sheridan Road and Lincoln Street in Evanston. Click here for more details and course maps. 

Water Stations 

Water stations are located at various points on the course. There are three water stations on the 10k course and two water stations on the 5k course.  

Race Day Volunteers 

To sign up for a volunteer shift, click here. Volunteers can pick up a shirt at the YWCA/Info tent, Contact Michele Lacy at mlacy@ywca-ens.org, with questions. 

USATF Certification 

Both the 5K and 10K courses are USATF certified. 
The 5K course runs out-and-back along Evanston's lakefront between Lincoln/Sheridan and Greenwood/Sheridan. It is a flat and fast race course! The 10K course is an out and back run that follows the 5K, but continues south before heading north along the lakefront through Northwestern University campus, then turning south on Sheridan before looping back to finish at the start/finish line. The Youth Mile is an out-and-back course along the same route with a turnaround point at Library Place and Sheridan Road. Course maps are available at packet pick-up and in the volunteer/information tent on Race Day.
