Many trauma survivors do not have someone to turn to, or somewhere they can afford to go to get the emotional support and understanding that they need. Trauma Support Services was founded in 2007 as a 501(c)(3) to better serve victims of trauma in the State of Texas. We do this by providing professional trauma counseling and support services to children, teens, adults, and families who have experienced trauma, regardless of their ability to pay, for as long as it takes. Additionally, we provide education and training to mental health professionals, victim service providers, and community members to increase the quality and effectiveness of services survivors of trauma are receiving.

I am part of our Trauma Care Institute (TCI) team – the training branch of our organization. The goal of TCI is to equip communities throughout Texas with effective trauma therapy services through high quality education; with the ripple effect being an increase in quality trauma therapy for individuals and families.  Through this program, TCI offers the latest in trauma treatment modalities, research, and education to therapists. In addition, TCI provides trauma trainings to local school districts and universities, corporations, government offices, non-profits, hospitals and municipalities to increase the number of trauma informed individuals and service providers. Thanks to our grant funding and generous donations, the majority of these trainings are free of charge.
 

Our goal as an organization is to help move individuals and their families from “surviving to thriving.” In doing so, we build stronger and healthier communities that promote positive change and economic security.

As a staff member at Trauma Support Services, I have seen firsthand the impact we are able to make – with individuals, their families, and within our communities.
